WYMT Issues & Answers: Congressman Hal Rogers

Steve Hensley recently sat down with Congressman Hal Rogers for an edition of Issues and Answers.

The two talked about a host of topics that included the legacy of Reverend Billy Graham, school safety, and energy prices in Eastern Kentucky, among other topics.

When it came to school safety Rogers believes there is much to be done before approaching the removal of guns.

“But before we get to guns there’s a lot of low hanging things like those that we can get to in a bipartisan way,” said the Congressman.

The Issues and Answers was filmed just a handful of weeks after a shooter opened up on high school students in Florida.

Rogers said his district that includes 30 South and Eastern Kentucky counties had a handful of copycat threats following the shooting.

“15 school kids were arrested for terroristic threatening, harassment. 15 in just my district,” Rogers said.

The two talked about the rise in electric prices people are seeing.

“I let AEP, American Electric Power, and Kentucky Electric Power know I wanted to see results,” Rogers said.

Rogers met with AEP officials before the Issues and Answers. AEP released a statement following the meeting and said customers will start seeing the Public Service Commission mandated rate decrease in March bills.

Rogers said even with the decrease rates are still too high.

“One man told me his monthly bill jumped from $189 to $486,” Rogers said.
